VICTORY

The Queen Victoria Memorial, which is standing in the centre of the Queen’s Gardens in front of Buckingham Palace is a memorial to Queen Victoria, the longest reigning monarch in British history. Inspired by this memorial, Marco Sousa created ‘Victory’, a golden mirror inspired by the gilded winged victory at the top of the memorial, the goddess of victory. The breaks around the mirror characterize the failures of the monarchy always acting as divine and indispensable to their life, as a sun, which is represented in the center of the mirror outlined by points. These points symbolize the long fight that the Queen had, in order to achieve a period of prosperity and great deeds. This mirror is a memorial to the struggle that the Queen had against the flaws of the monarchy, representing its immortality, wealth and power.
